Fly a motorised hang glider, or trike, at sunrise over the Azat Reservoir, Mount Yeranos and the Temple of Garni, close to Yerevan, Armenia.
You sit behind a professional pilot. A trike, also known as a powered hang glider or microlight trike, is a fabric wing above you, a small engine behind you, and nothing but open air on either side. It is the closest thing to flying a hang glider without years of training, and the morning light over the Azat gorge is the reason we fly at dawn. Choose a 10, 20 or 30-minute flight, each covering a different route; passenger insurance and a video of your flight are included.
Powered Hang Gliding: What a Trike Flight Feels Like
You sit in an open seat directly behind the pilot, under the wing, with an unobstructed view in every direction. There is no cabin and no window: the air, the light and the drop below are all yours. Once airborne, the landscape opens up beneath your feet.
That openness is what separates a trike from a light aircraft. If you would rather fly in an enclosed cabin with up to three passengers, our scenic flights by light aircraft cover a similar area. If you want the feeling of being in the air rather than looking out at it, the trike is the one to book.
Three Flight Routes
Every flight starts and ends at the airfield beside the Azat Reservoir. What changes with the duration is how far the route reaches.
10 minutes — Azat Reservoir
A loop over the Azat Reservoir. It is short, and deliberately so: enough to take off, feel the wing carry you, see the water and the surrounding hills from above, and land. A good choice for a first flight or for anyone who wants to try it before committing to more.
20 minutes — Azat Reservoir and Mount Yeranos
The reservoir loop extended out to Mount Yeranos, the mountain near the reservoir. The extra time means a longer stretch in the air over the valley.
30 minutes — Azat Reservoir and the Temple of Garni
The longest route, flying from the reservoir to the Temple of Garni, Armenia's only surviving pagan temple, a colonnaded Greco-Roman building above the Azat gorge. Seeing the temple and the gorge from the air puts the whole landscape in context in a way the ground visit cannot. It pairs naturally with a Garni and Geghard day tour later the same day.
Why We Fly at Sunrise
Flights take place at sunrise, roughly between 06:00 and 08:00, because that is when the air is usually calmest. The exact time shifts with the season and the sunrise, so we confirm it with you before the flight. The early start also brings the best light of the day: long shadows across the gorge and the reservoir catching the first sun.
Morning air at altitude is cool, even in summer. Dress for the weather, bring a layer and wear closed, comfortable shoes.
Weather and Safety
- Weather decides. We only fly in suitable conditions. Strong wind, rain, low cloud or other unfavourable weather can postpone a flight.
- Rescheduling, not cancelling. If the weather on your day is not suitable, we offer the nearest day with good conditions.
- The pilot has the final word. The decision to fly is made on the morning itself, based on the actual conditions and the pilot's assessment.
- Briefing before take-off. Preparation and a safety briefing take place at the airfield. Passengers are expected to follow the pilot's instructions throughout.
- Insurance included. Every passenger is insured for the flight. To arrange it, we may need your date of birth, citizenship and passport details.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a hang glider trike? A trike, also called a motorised or powered hang glider, is a two-seat aircraft made of a hang glider wing above a small open frame with an engine. You sit behind the pilot in the open air, with no cabin around you.
- Do I need any flying experience? No. The pilot flies the trike the whole time. You only need to follow the pilot's instructions during the briefing and the flight.
- Which flight should I choose? The 10-minute flight over the Azat Reservoir is a good first taste. The 20-minute flight adds Mount Yeranos. The 30-minute flight goes as far as the Temple of Garni and covers the longest stretch of the Azat gorge.
- Why are the flights so early in the morning? Sunrise usually brings the calmest air of the day, which makes for a smoother flight. Flights run roughly between 06:00 and 08:00, depending on the season.
- What is the minimum age, and is there a weight limit? Passengers must be at least 14 years old and weigh between 40 and 100 kg.
- What happens if the weather is bad? We only fly in suitable conditions. If wind, rain or low cloud make flying unsafe on your day, we offer the nearest day with good weather. The final decision is made by the pilot on the morning of the flight.
- Will I get photos or video of my flight? Yes. A video of your flight is included and delivered within 48 hours.
- Is the flight insured? Yes, passenger insurance is included. We may ask for your date of birth, citizenship and passport details to arrange it.
- How do I get to the airfield? We can arrange a round-trip transfer from central Yerevan, or you can drive yourself on a paved road. If you come on your own, we agree the arrival time with you in advance.
- How is a trike flight different from your scenic flights or paragliding? Our scenic flights use an enclosed light aircraft for up to three passengers. Tandem paragliding is engine-free and usually launches from a hillside. The trike sits in between: an open-air, engine-powered flight from an airfield over a fixed route.
