Learn to ski or snowboard at Armenia's main winter resort with a licensed instructor who teaches in English and Russian — the practical difference on a mountain where most local instruction is in Armenian and Russian only. Tsaghkadzor sits about an hour north of Yerevan on the slopes of Mount Teghenis, which makes it the easiest alpine day out in the country: lessons in the morning, the ropeway and a long lunch in the afternoon, back in the city by evening. We arrange the instructor, the full equipment rental and the logistics, so you arrive with nothing but warm clothes and leave able to ride.

Private Ski & Snowboard Lessons in Tsaghkadzor

Lessons are private and one-to-one, for complete beginners through to skiers who want to clean up their technique.

Your instructor is licensed and works with adults and children alike — children are taught at the same rate as adults, with no junior surcharge. Sessions are booked by the hour and built around you: a first-timer spends the first lesson on the nursery slope learning to stop, turn and use the lift with confidence, while a returning skier can go straight to carving, moguls or the steeper pitches higher up Teghenis.

Snowboard lessons follow the same structure with a snowboard-specific instructor. Both disciplines are available for the same session lengths, and families frequently split a booking — one parent on skis, one child on a board.

Multi-hour bookings carry a bonus: book three hours of instruction and the fourth hour is free. The three-plus-one block gives a beginner meaningful time on the mountain rather than a single introductory hour.

Equipment Rental — Everything Provided

You do not need to own or carry any gear. We arrange full rental at the resort, so you can fly in with hand luggage and still spend a proper day on the mountain.

Available for full-day hire:

  • Skis — full set, including boots and poles
  • Snowboard — board and boots
  • Helmet — strongly recommended, and required for children
  • Goggles — essential in bright snow and in falling weather
  • Clothing — a full jacket-and-trousers set, or jacket only / trousers only if you already have half of what you need

Tell us heights, shoe sizes and rough ability when you book and the gear is waiting when you arrive, rather than queueing at the rental desk on a busy Saturday morning.

The Tsaghkadzor Ropeway

The cable car up Mount Teghenis is operated by the resort and paid for on site — it is not part of the lesson booking, but it is worth knowing how it is sold before you go, because choosing the wrong ticket is the most common way visitors overspend or run out of time.

The ropeway runs in five stages up the mountain, and tickets come in several shapes:

  • Single stage — enough if you only want the view from the first station
  • Morning session — a fixed late-morning-to-early-afternoon block
  • Afternoon session — the equivalent block for the second half of the day
  • Multi-ride ticket — a bundle of rides to use as you like
  • Full day — open from resort opening to close, the usual choice for a full lesson day

For a lesson day we normally suggest the full-day or a session ticket, depending on whether you are skiing either side of lunch. Your instructor will tell you which stages suit your level on the day.

Good to Know

  • Season. Tsaghkadzor's ski season typically runs from around mid-November to April, depending on snowfall. Conditions vary year to year, so we confirm the state of the mountain before you commit to a date.
  • Languages. Instruction in English and Russian.
  • Children. Welcome, and charged the same as adults. Helmets are required for young skiers.
  • Getting there. Tsaghkadzor is roughly an hour from Yerevan by road. We can arrange a private transfer so you are not negotiating a mountain road in winter conditions, and hotel reservation in the resort if you would rather stay the night and ski two days.
  • Booking ahead. Instructors are limited, and weekends and holidays fill first. Book early for peak dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you offer ski lessons in English in Tsaghkadzor? Yes. Our instructor teaches in English and Russian. This is worth checking anywhere in Armenia, because instruction at the resort is otherwise predominantly in Armenian and Russian.
  • I have never skied before. Is a private lesson the right start? Yes. A first session covers balance, stopping, basic turns and using the lift, on the gentle lower slope, with the instructor's full attention on you rather than a group.
  • Can children take lessons, and do they cost more? Children are welcome and are charged at the same rate as adults — there is no junior surcharge. Helmets are required for children and included in the rental we arrange.
  • What is the 3+1 offer? Book three hours of instruction and you get a fourth hour free. It applies to both ski and snowboard lessons.
  • Do I need to bring my own skis, board or clothing? No. We arrange a full rental set — skis or snowboard, boots, helmet, goggles, and jacket and trousers. Send us sizes when booking and everything is ready on arrival. If you own part of your kit, we rent only the pieces you are missing.
  • Are ropeway tickets included in the lesson? No. The cable car is run by the resort and paid on site. It sells single-stage, morning-session, afternoon-session, multi-ride and full-day tickets; we will advise which one fits your plan and level.
  • When is the ski season in Tsaghkadzor? Roughly mid-November to April, subject to snowfall. Because it depends on the weather, we confirm conditions before your date and will tell you honestly if the mountain is not worth the trip.
  • How do I get to Tsaghkadzor from Yerevan? It is about an hour by road. We can arrange a private transfer, which is the simplest option in winter, and can also book a hotel in the resort if you want to ski more than one day.
  • What else is there to do in Tsaghkadzor? Plenty — the ropeway itself, the medieval Kecharis monastery in the town, and our ATV and snowmobile tours, which run from the same resort and pair naturally with a morning on the slopes.
