See Garni, the Azat Reservoir and the Ararat plain from a light aircraft near Yerevan, flying from a licensed airfield with a professional pilot.

Membership packages give access to either a short introductory loop or a longer route out to Lake Sevan and Mount Hatis, with up to three people on board.

Scenic Flights by Light Aircraft in Armenia

A private general-aviation hub just outside Yerevan, where members board a four-seat aircraft with a professional pilot and fly low and slow over some of Armenia's most photogenic terrain โ€” the Azat gorge, the temple plateau at Garni, and, on the longer route, the blue expanse of Lake Sevan.

This is not a commercial sightseeing bus in the sky. The aircraft carries the pilot and up to three people, so a member flies with their own guests and nobody else. You sit beside or directly behind the pilot, with clear views through the windows on both sides, close enough to the ground to pick out individual villages, orchards and monasteries.

Aranor Travel arranges the membership package, confirms the weather window and handles the transfer from Yerevan so that you simply arrive and fly.

Membership Packages

Access to the aircraft is arranged through a membership package. Two packages are offered, differing in route and time in the air. In both cases the package covers the aircraft rather than a seat, so the package value is unchanged whether one, two or three people take part.

FLY Membership Package โ€” Azat Reservoir & Garni

The membership package for anyone who wants a short flight over the Armenian landscape, and the natural starting point for those who have never been up in a light aircraft.

  • Route: airfield โ†’ Azat Reservoir โ†’ Garni โ†’ return
  • Time in the air: up to 15 minutes
  • Capacity: up to 3 passengers
  • The member may invite up to 2 friends on the flight
  • The package value does not change whether 1, 2 or 3 people take part
  • Flight date arranged in advance and subject to weather conditions

Fifteen minutes is short, and deliberately so. It is enough to climb out, run the gorge, circle the Garni plateau and come back, which is exactly the right length for a first flight, for young people over 12, and for anyone who wants the experience without committing to an hour aloft.

FLY+ Membership Package โ€” Garni, Lake Sevan & Mount Hatis

A longer flight and a wider sweep of Armenian nature, reaching well beyond the Azat basin.

  • Route: airfield โ†’ Azat Reservoir โ†’ Garni โ†’ Lake Sevan โ†’ Mount Hatis โ†’ return
  • Time in the air: up to 55 minutes
  • Capacity: up to 3 passengers
  • GoPro footage of the flight as a gift
  • The member may invite up to 2 friends on the flight

The extended package is the one to choose if you want photographs. Crossing from the Azat valley over the ridge towards Sevan gives you the transition from arid gorge country to high alpine lake in a single flight, and the approach to the volcanic cone of Hatis is the visual high point of the route. The GoPro recording is handed to you afterwards.

When Flights Operate

  • Flights are generally carried out in the morning hours, when the air is smoothest and visibility over the mountains is at its best.
  • In the autumn season, when weather conditions are settled, flights can also be operated during the day.
  • No flights take place after sunset.
  • The date and time of the flight are agreed in advance.
  • Operation depends on weather conditions and airspace availability.
  • Advance reservation is mandatory. This is not a walk-up activity.

If weather closes the window on your chosen date, the flight is rescheduled โ€” light aircraft do not fly on a "near enough" forecast, and no reputable operator will pretend otherwise.

Participation Requirements

These are safety limits set by the aircraft, not preferences. Please read them before arranging a package, because they determine who can take part.

Weight limits. The weight of every passenger must be provided in advance when reserving the flight so that the flight can be confirmed. A Cessna 182 has a fixed useful load, and the aircraft must be within its weight and balance envelope before it leaves the ground.

  • Passengers weighing over 90 kg cannot be accommodated on the flight.
  • If one passenger weighs between 80 and 90 kg, only one other passenger may join that flight.
  • These limits exist for aircraft safety and flight performance reasons.

Children and young passengers. - Children aged 12 and over may take part in flights.

  • If a child flies without a parent, written permission from a parent or legal guardian is required.
  • If a parent or legal guardian is present, no written permission is needed.
  • Conditions for passengers under 18 are agreed in advance.

Pilot and Safety

  • Our pilot has 40 years of flying experience.
  • The airfield is licensed by the Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
  • Flights are operated on a Cessna 182 โ€” one of the most widely flown and best-understood single-engine aircraft in general aviation.
  • The aircraft carries the pilot and up to 3 passengers.

Good to Know

  • Bring ID. Photo identification is needed for everyone flying.
  • Dress for the morning. Early starts near the mountains are cold even in summer; the cabin warms up once you are flying.
  • Motion sensitivity. A light aircraft moves more than an airliner. If you are prone to motion sickness, the 15-minute FLY route is the sensible choice.
  • Photography. Bring a camera; the FLY+ package includes GoPro footage as a gift.
  • Pairs naturally with Garni. You fly over the Garni plateau, so combining the flight with a ground visit to Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery on the same day makes a genuinely complementary itinerary.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can tourists take a scenic flight in Armenia? Yes. Visitors can arrange a membership package giving access to a private flight on a light aircraft from a licensed airfield near Yerevan, flown by a professional pilot. No aviation experience or licence is needed on your part. Aranor Travel handles the arrangement, the weather confirmation and the transfer.
  • How long is the flight? There are two membership packages. The short FLY route is up to 15 minutes in the air and covers the Azat Reservoir and Garni. The extended FLY+ route is up to 55 minutes and adds Lake Sevan and Mount Hatis. Allow additional time either side for the drive from Yerevan and the pre-flight briefing.
  • How many people can fly at once? The aircraft seats the pilot plus up to three people. A membership package covers the aircraft rather than individual seats, and the member may invite up to two friends along, so the package value is the same whether one, two or three people take part.
  • Is there a weight limit? Yes, and it is strict. Passengers over 90 kg cannot be accommodated. If one passenger weighs between 80 and 90 kg, only one other passenger may join that flight. Every passenger's weight must be given in advance so the flight can be confirmed โ€” this is a weight and balance requirement of the aircraft, not a formality.
  • Can children fly? Young people aged 12 and over can take part. A child flying without a parent needs written permission from a parent or legal guardian; if a parent or guardian is present, no written permission is required. Conditions for participants under 18 are agreed in advance.
  • What aircraft is used and who flies it? Flights are operated on a Cessna 182, a four-seat single-engine aircraft. Our pilot has 40 years of flying experience, and the airfield is licensed by the Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
  • What time of day do flights take place? Usually in the morning, when air conditions are calmest. During the autumn season, if the weather is settled, daytime flights are also possible. Flights are never operated after sunset.
  • What happens if the weather is bad? The flight is rescheduled. Operation depends on weather conditions and airspace availability, and the date and time are agreed with you in advance. Light aircraft do not fly in marginal conditions, so some flexibility in your itinerary is worth keeping.
  • Do I need to arrange this in advance? Yes, advance reservation is mandatory. Passenger weights must be submitted and the weather window confirmed before a flight can be scheduled, so this cannot be arranged on the day.
  • How is this different from a helicopter tour or a balloon flight? A light aircraft covers far more ground than a balloon, which makes it a rewarding way to see a long route from the air. A hot air balloon flight over Garni drifts slowly at low altitude and is the romantic option; a private helicopter tour lands in remote places an aircraft cannot reach. The aeroplane is the one to choose for distance and views.
  • Can the flight be combined with other activities? Yes. Because flights are usually in the morning and the airfield is close to Garni, the most natural pairing is a morning flight followed by a ground visit to Garni and Geghard. We build the full day and arrange transfers between each part.
